La Llorona (The Weeping Woman) is a famous Mexican folktale. Though there are many variations, one of the most common versions of the story tells of a woman who drowned her children in a fit of rage after learning of her husband's disloyalty. Regretting her actions, she drowns herself as well. Now, her spirit roams around rivers at night, crying and searching for children that she can steal away to replace her own.
This concept follows Rocio, my version of the woman who became La Llorona, and Mari, her modern-day counterpart. In a journey to find her own missing children, Mari finds a bit of herself in La Llorona and must make a difficult decision for the sake of herself and her children. |
